Declaration I: On the Preservation of Mars

Let it be affirmed that the planet Mars is the common heritage of all humankind. As such, its surface, resources, and potential are not subject to appropriation by any private individual, corporation, government, nation-state, non-governmental entity, or otherwise. Any unilateral claims of ownership, sovereignty, or exclusive rights by such parties, regardless of their wealth or technological capability, are unrecognized and invalid. Mars shall be preserved for peaceful, scientific, and cooperative exploration for the collective benefit of all humanity, not for the exclusive enrichment of a few.
